At Independence Square in Kyiv, Ukraine, is a monument built in 2001 to commemorate one of the Medieval Kyiv city gates, the Lach Gates. At the top is a sculpture of Archangel Michael which is the city's symbol. Saint Michael symbolizes the victory of good over evil, and he has been widely represented in art through the ages.
